Through
four decades and beyond, Jeux Sans
Frontières and its associated national domestic competitions - including It's A Knockout,
Intervilles, Spiel Ohne Grenzen and Zeskamp - became much-loved European obsessions. Once described as
"the zany Olympics", these were televised competitions of physical
prowess, humour and sometimes plain lunacy and luck, which set town against town
whilst promoting goodwill between the competing nations. Domestic heats in
countries such as Great Britain, Germany and Netherlands would reward
winning teams with progression to the International Series - where they
would face their European counterparts in historic and often exotic
locations on the continent. In most other countries the teams were chosen
directly for the International Series with no Domestic competitions. The games were colourful and inventive and the annual
competitions gained impressive television viewing figures
across Europe.
Among this site's
600 pages, visitors will find an exhaustive guide to all these series and
more besides. The focus of this site was initially heavily weighted
towards the years in
which Jeux Sans Frontieres and It's A Knockout ran on British television,
but over the years since JSFnetGB was launched in 2003 the scope has
widened considerably. Consequently, you will find
results and details here from all years and flavours of Jeux Sans Frontières,
from its earliest days in Italy as Campanile Sera, right up to 21st
century revivals including Intervilles International and
Eurogames. In addition, you will find team, venue and winners'
databases plus a series
history containing detailed information on the development of the
various programmes, the people who made, presented and refereed the games
and you'll also hear from some of the competitors who took part in them.
Also presented, where available, is information from local, national and
international press coverage and items of interest from publications
including the souvenir brochures issued at the event.
