As
with other Intervilles International series, the points that the teams
accrued on the five games counted towards a head start on the final
'Champions' Wall' game - the winner of the heat would be the team that
completed their climb up the wall first.
Despite American involvement in this series, it did not sell to
American countries and has never been transmitted there.
Each nation sent two teams to contest Intervilles
International 2014. While it is unclear how other countries selected
their two teams, the French teams were chosen to represent the north and south
of the country. The team France 1 (Heats 1-5, Semi-Final 1 and International
Final) comprised competitors from the southern territories of Bordeaux,
Toulouse, Montpellier and Marseille, while France 2 (Heats 6-10 and Semi-Final
2) was made up from competitors hailing from the northern territories of
Paris, Vannes, Nantes, Strasbourg and Lille. |

If
ever there was a practical demonstration of why deciding events by The
Champions' Wall was a really bad idea, then this series of Intervilles
International was it. The Russian teams were nearly unbeatable on the
wall, a strength which gained them an incredible 11 victories this year - but
on just two occasions were they leading on points after Game 5. The tally of
victories this year was as follows:
If
the events were declared prior to The Champions' Wall game, there would have
been a very different picture, and arguably a more equitable share of the
spoils:
So
it's official: The Champions' Wall may have kept viewers watching until the
end of the programmes but it rendered the rest of the show unimportant.
Clearly, the producers of the Hungarian edition agreed with the
above, as the results of the Champions' Wall were not taken into account in
the series as transmitted on the M1 channel. The winner of each heat was the
country with the highest score after Game 5, with the winning country
receiving 1pt for each of the ten eliminatories, 3pts for a semi-final win and
6pts for the International Final victory. This was the result of the Hungarian
version:
