Simply the Best sadly did not fare well enough in the ITV ratings to justify a second run and therefore, as with other JSF-related programmes in Great Britain post-1982, it was gone before it had really got itself noticed. British fans were once again ruing the loss of another JSF variant as similar programmes continued to do well across the English Channel in mainland Europe.

Grand Prix del Verano entered it's eleventh season on TVE in Spain, but even there, the clouds were beginning to gather over the summer sun. The series' audience figures had held up pretty consistently over its lengthy run, but in 2005 they fell off dramatically, not once rising above 2.5 million viewers and the audience share dropped sharply too, some 5-10% off the show's usual average of 25%. A large part of the reason for this drop in ratings was that TVE schedulers had moved Grand Prix to Wednesday nights, where it faced strong competition from the other networks, who were showing hits like Los Serrano (The Serrano) and Aquí no hay quien viva (Nobody Lives Here) in the same timeslot. The 2005 season would prove to be Grand Prix's last on TVE and also the last for Ramón García, who had hosted the show for the full duration since 1995. The show would come back on another channel, FORTA TV, in 2007 after a year's sabbatical.
