After 1984 saw the final It's A Christmas Knockout of
the original series run, things went rather quiet on the international front.
However, Intervilles was revived in France after a 12 year absence and the new British Domestic Series
Anything Goes returned for a second year. Unfortunately, it was to be
its swansong and there was no space for it in the 1986 BBC1 schedule.
Anything Goes retained the same presentation and refereeing line-up as had
proved successful in the inaugural 1984 series. The make-up of the teams
changed however, with three teams a week instead of two and these teams being
composed of families from particular towns instead of professionals.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the globe, a new incarnation of
It's A Knockout launched - in Australia. The series met with
considerable success and would continue as a regular programme until 1987,
also spawning four celebrity specials in 1986. The
final programme of the original Australian It's A Knockout was also the last
BBC IAK, when celebrity teams from Australia, Great Britain and the USA fought
it out one last time in 1988 in the colourful setting of Walt Disney World in Florida.
The Australians revived It's A Knockout in 2011 but this was cancelled
after one season. |
