Additional Information

The staging of this heat was postponed from its original recording date of Sunday 19th February 1978 due to poor weather conditions, and was recorded the next day instead. This meant that SSR's intended schedule had to be changed as they were the only broadcaster that was transmitting the winter series live. To return to the live schedule, SSR added this heat to their Saturday schedule on the 25th February, airing the second heat live on the following afternoon.

With the exception of this heat, scoreboards in the 1978 Interneige did not include team names, just the country they were competing for.

Despite teams from Portugal not taking part in the series, Portuguese broadcaster RTP transmitted Interneige under the title, Brincadeiras brancas - Jogos na neve. This translates into English as 'White Games - Games in Snow'.

Additional Information

On the final game, one of the two Swiss competitors’ cows violently struck the wooden stable that was used as part of the finishing line. The stable consequently collapsed on impact, causing great hilarity amongst the presenters and competitors. However, referee Gennaro Olivieri was not so impressed and was somewhat riled by the situation. Somehow he got the competitors to regain their composure and realise the mess that they had been made of the playing area.
