It was business as usual for It's A Knockout and Jeux Sans Frontières, but it was also a year that British teams in Europe would want to forget. The year's programmes included the last Cup Final Knockout and a Christmas special from Scotland, pitting the local team, Aviemore, against teams from Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland. Netherlands left the series at the end of 1977 because their JSF broadcasts were recorded for later transmission - and many Dutch viewers were watching JSF live from the Belgian stations BRT (Flemish) or RTBF (French). They were replaced in 1978 by Yugoslavia. 

After a successful year in It's A Knockout and Jeux Sans Frontières which ended with them competing in the International Final, British team Oldham were approached (along with IAK producer Cecil Korer) by Hong Kong Television to take part in a special programme to be made in Hong Kong. With the support of their local Town Council, the Oldham team did indeed travel the 10,000 miles to the Far East and not only took part, but won the event in November 1977 - and this despite having had considerably less time to practice the games than their Hong Kong opponents. Despite Oldham's success and a competition full of colour and invention, the programme was never transmitted outside of Hong Kong - and the BBC couldn't find space in their transmission schedule.
