After all the excitement of 1973 and Ely's breathtaking journey to the Jeux Sans Frontières crown, 1974 was another good year for British teams.

This year also saw the last time that the British representative in the British heat of Jeux Sans Frontières was decided by its score in the Domestic heats.

On August 8th 1974, the French broadcasting network ORTF (Office de Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française) was split into separate entities and A2 (Antenne 2) was given broadcast responsibilities. This resulted in the fact that although the programmes credits displayed ORTF, from International Heat 5 the programme was broadcast on the newly formed A2 channel.

At the end of the year, the Swiss enjoyed the spoils for the second time in three years, by winning the Jeux Sans Frontières Golden Trophy, despite not having won a solitary International Heat!
