Additional Information |
The staging of this first Quarter-Final was postponed by a week as a mark of
respect to Guy Lux, whose daughter and son-in-law had been killed in a car
crash a week earlier. The teams that were to contest this event, Calais and
Compiègne, played out their Quarter-Final on Thursday 20th August 1964 and all
subsequent transmissions ran a week later than originally planned.

Additional Information |
The
result of this competition was not shown on screen, and therefore we have
mocked up the scoreboard based on the announcements made at the event.
Unfortunately, as Simone Garnier was introducing a game involving tricycles in
Compiègne, a grandstand full of spectators collapsed behind her to the left of
camera. As pandemonium ensued, Guy Lux took the situation in hand to reassure
participants and viewers, and announced the cancellation of the tricycle
event. |

Returning
Teams and Competitors |
Tarbes, as reigning Intervilles Champions, received a bye allowing them to
enter the 1964 competition at the Semi-Final stage. This was facilitated in
the absence of a special 'Super Final', the Champions' head-to-head which had
rounded off the 1963 series. |

Additional Information |
This 1964 Intervilles Final ended
in a draw. In possibly the oddest tie-breaker in history, the two teams had to
count the beards and shaved heads amongst their townsfolk. Compiègne
out-scored Royan on the number of beards, but thanks to the local barber in
Royan, Compiègne were comprehensively beaten 250-77 on shaven heads - with
each bald pate worth double points! |
