Additional Information |
Due to technical problems, the live transmission of this programme was
interrupted for 35 minutes from 8.58pm when the links from the venues were
lost. As the technical crews scrambled desperately to restore the link, the
competition was halted and the RTF hastily repeated an earlier broadcast - a
documentary about the painter Velasquez. This finished at 9.35pm (the original
planned finishing time of Intervilles) at which time the transmission
of Intervilles was resumed, with the events being restarted at the
venues. The programme ultimately drew to a close at 10.10pm or thereabouts.
This
was the first instance of a draw between teams in Intervilles, and this
caused the producers to incorporate in the rules a tie-breaker for future
competitions. However, it was decided that to change the rules on the spot for
the drawn heat would have been unfair, and consequently Guy Lux suggested that
the two teams formed one team from the two towns which would compete in the
quarter-finals. This was agreed by the town mayors. |

Additional Information |
The regional heats of Intervilles drew to a close with this fifth
competition. The series moved into the quarter final stage, with the five heat
winners qualifying along with the highest scoring losing team - Dax. It is
unclear how Dax, who scored 4 points in Heat 2 South West, were chosen as
qualifiers over Dournenez who achieved the same total in this heat. |

Additional Information |
The team representing Cavaillon was in fact composed of team members of
both Cavaillon and Carpentras, towns which had competed in Heat 3 South East
and ended the competition tied on points. They would go on to compete in the
semi-finals as Vaucluse, the administrative division (département) of France
that both towns are situated in.
This
quarter final competition overran the prescribed Intervilles
transmission slot and, with Cavaillon's victory assured, the last two
questions were asked after the television transmission had ended. The final
result was given out at the start of the following week's programme. |

Additional Information |
Before the Game of Questions, Bayonne led Dax 7-4. Unfortunately, their
intellectuals lost them the match, failing to answer two 3pt questions
correctly. Meanwhile, their opposite numbers on the Dax team correctly
answered one 3pt question, and only lost a single point when they incorrectly
answered their second question. |

Additional Information |
So as not to suggest a bias towards one town from Cavaillon and Carpentras,
who had competed in the quarter finals under the name Cavaillon following
their tie in the regional heats, in this semi final the team adopted the name
of their French administrative division (département), Vaucluse.
The transmission ended before the final two questions were
asked, as Saint-Amand-les-Eaux's victory was by then guaranteed. Therefore,
the score given at the end of the programme was not actually the final result.
We have given the possible outcomes above. |
